Dr. Danilo Lo Fo Wong

Dr Danilo Lo Fo Wong has worked for almost 30 years in the areas of food safety and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) from a One Health perspective. Since 2011, he is the Regional Adviser for the Control of AMR at the World Health Organization European Office, Copenhagen, Denmark, where he coordinates AMR-related work to ensure a comprehensive approach to support the 53 Member States of the European Region.

Activity areas include: supporting national AMR action plan development, facilitating intersectoral coordination, strengthening surveillance of antimicrobial consumption and resistance, strengthening laboratory capacity and quality management, implementing infection prevention and control core components, promoting antimicrobial stewardship programmes, mainstreaming behavioural insight methodology, as well as supporting education, advocacy and awareness campaigns.

Prior to that, he performed research at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada (1993-94), the Animal Health Service, Deventer, The Netherlands (1994-95), and the Royal and Veterinary University, Copenhagen, Denmark (1996-99). Between 1999 and 2007, he worked as a senior scientist at the Danish Zoonosis Centre, after which he joined the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, as coordinator of the WHO Global Foodborne Infections Network (GFN).
