Marko Korenjak

Marko Korenjak is the President of the European Liver Patient Association (ELPA), representing 39 liver patient associations from 29 countries in the WHO European region. He serves as a Civil Society Representative on the Management Board of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Previously, he was a member of EMA’s Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) and co-chair of the Patient and Consumer Working Party (PCWP). He also served on the DIA Advisory Council for Europe, Middle East & Africa (ACEMEA) and remains active in the WHO EURO Collaborating Committee on TB, HIV, and viral hepatitis, as well as in the EU working group on monitoring hepatitis B and C. Marko is a member of the HERA Civil Society Advisory Forum. He holds three Master’s degrees—in Business and Economy, International Relations and Diplomacy, and International Patient Advocacy. At ELPA, he leads a team involved in 20 EU Horizon projects, managing over 200 million EUR in liver-related research with more than 180 partner organizations. In 2017, The Economist’s Research Unit named him one of the 18 most influential individuals in hepatitis elimination. In 2024, he received the "Made with Patients" award from PFMD, the world’s highest recognition for patient engagement.
