Marco Marchetti is a physician by training with expertise in epidemiology, research methodology, evidence-based medicine, systematic reviews, HTA, economic evaluations, and budget impact assessment, he has contributed to HTA at national and European levels.
As Director of the HTA Unit at University Hospital Policlinico Gemelli (2001-2016), he led one of the first hospital-based HTA units internationally, supporting resource allocation and conducting Rapid HTA Evaluations for 700+ medical devices and 500+ pharmaceuticals. As Responsible for the Scientific and Technical Secretariat of the Ethics Committee (2007-2015), he oversaw 4,000+ clinical study evaluations, ensuring compliance with scientific, ethical, and regulatory standards. As Director of the National Center for HTA at the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) (2017-2022), he led research on technology assessment and healthcare sustainability. He also contributed to EUnetHTA, supporting the HTA Core Model, and joined AdopHTA.
Since 2022, he has been Director of the HTA Unit at Agenzia Nazionale per i Servizi Sanitari Regionali (AGENAS), Italy’s national HTA body for medical devices, and Co-chair of the Member State Coordination Group on Health Technology Assessment (HTACG) at the European Commission.
