Jan De Maeseneer

Prof. Jan De Maeseneer, MD, PhD, (Hon) FRCGP, worked from 1978-2017 as a family physician in the inter-professional Community Health Center Botermarkt – Ledeberg (Ghent – Belgium), a deprived and multicultural area. He has been the Head of Department of Family Medicine and Primary Health Care at Ghent University (1991-2017) and Vice-Dean for Strategic Planning at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (2008-2017). He currently is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Forum for Primary Care (www.euprimarycare.org ) and has been the Secretary- General of The Network: Towards Unity for Health ( http://thenetworktufh.org ) from 2007 – 2015. He has been the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board for Welfare, Health and Family, advising the Flemish minister from 2010-2018. He is actually coordinating the Primafamed- Network, a network focusing on capacity building for human resources for primary health care in Africa. Since 2010, he is Director of the International Centre for Primary Health Care and Family Medicine – Ghent University, a WHO Collaborating Centre on PHC. Main focus of interest: access to health care; primary care; quality of care; human resources for health care; financing mechanisms.
